I like how he just keeps eating and not really listening to a thing Blair has to say… reminds me of most a-holes I know.

After receiving the famed Mystery Voice Mail one Saturday afternoon (see previous entry), I began racking my brains as to who it could possibly be leaving me this message and what they could possibly want. The woman used my name, so I figured it wasn’t just a wrong number.

Finally I came to the conclusion that “Crystal” who said she was “James’ wife” must be the wife of my new next door neighbor, James. I came to this conclusion because of the name association and because she mentioned termites, and getting the “termite thing set up.” and I do have a few roaches (disgusting, I know) here and their.

So a few days later, as I was getting my mail out of the mail room, who should be walking by but James himself. Now, I’ve only actually met James a couple of times very briefly walking by in the halls, so I wasn’t even exactly sure if this was in fact James or if this man did indeed have a wife… but I was sure enough that it was him to ask him, as he was walking by minding his own business:

“Hey… did your wife call me?”

Lot’s of excruciatingly cold silence fills the room as James stares blankly into my eyes, blinks hard, looks really confused and says “uhhhhhhhhh”

Then there is moment or three of SERIOUSLY akward silence at which point I finally blurt out “Is your wife’s name Crystal?”

“No.” James says immediately and walks away as fast as he can.

This is a mystery voice mail I received a few weeks ago, set to music by ‘Air’…

Here is a snippet from a journal entry of mine 5 years ago, on July, 25th 2001:

“i used to be so against computers, but then realized i had to know them to be successful in todays world. i would much rather be organic, spontaneous, self reliant, physical, etc. . . what does that mean? it means being a painter or writer is the thing for me. my order of interest right now is:
1.painter
2.writer
3.musician
4.director
5.don juan
6.don juan”

Now I work for I*B*M…. weird huh?

We went on a 2 day kayaking trip with a group of 11 people this weekend, and it was pretty blintsy. At the end of the first day of kayaking there is a stretch of rapids called the ‘Compton’ rapids which are pretty much the bomb diggity.

Normally these rapids are Class II, and pretty whimpy, but after the biblical plague of rains we’ve been getting the last few weeks they were pretty huge. I went through the rapids 3rd and made it through without spilling, which is more than I can say for one of the other dudes. He wiped out in front of me and I had to end up towing him and his boat upstream to safety. I didn’t find out until afterwards that the guy who wiped out had a friend who died in these rapids a few years ago. Apparently if you aren’t careful, you can get sucked under the rocks for days (the water after the rapids is 80 ft. deep, with a cliff on the East bank.) Sooooooo had I known it was that dangerous, I might not have went straight down the middle… but it was worth it.

What I think Kim Jong is thinking now…
